Name of followed trail: unmarked trail until Wolfsgarten, from there Krönungsweg/E8 again
Special mention: The Belgium Peace Walk delegation https://peacewalk.info/, whom we met in the forest near Wolfsgarten. Happy trail to you all!
We slept in a bit, and waited the heavier part of the rain. At 9.00 we started in full raingear with a little walk around Vogelsang towards the Victor Neels bridge. Luckily it wasn’t too scary/high, so I crossed without issues.
The trail was beautiful and bright green. The plan was to take frequent breaks, so we hoped to find something in Wolfsgarten. Unfortunately there was nothing around. Since having a break in the rain feels quite miserable, we continued into the forest. There we saw 5 other hikers coming our way. One of them had a wooden hiking pole with a drawing on it, so I asked where they were going. Jerusalem was the answer! 😂 We accidentally met the Belgium delegation of the Peace walk! We had a chat about both our travels and took a picture of this coincidental meeting. Although you might say there is no such thing as coincidence… I particularly liked the explanation about the goal of their walk. Using your own to feet to show you stand for People. Not against anyone, party or country, but for people. And whilst on their way, they learn from each other about the others viewpoints, and discuss how to accomplish peace. It’s an appealing walk! Happily pondering on this meeting of 2 trails, we continued until we found a little hut to sit in and make some tea.
After the tea break we walked on towards our destination near Kommern. The rain had stopped, and in the last part the sun even came out a little bit. We walked into the village Hostel (where they had no hostel unfortunately) and walked through farmland until we got to our hotel.
There we were looking forward to a good meal, but found out that the restaurant was closed. At first disappointed, but then we realized that we could also order food! So after a good shower we got a good Turkish meal. And then: time to our the leg up and rest. Today the 20 km went well, so the next couple of days we’ll go for 20 km days and see how we go.
