Special mention: David, for giving us a ride to the campsite. Thanks again!
We leave our grassy field in time and walk to the top of the hill. From there, soon the fields become vineyards.
We walk a long track through the vineyards all around us, with beautiful views.
Mark gives a lecture about wine, grapes and vineyards to Marleen and we enjoy the, already quite warm, scenery. When we get to a shaded spot, we pass our 1750 km point. 25% of our walk done! I’m not sure which emotion comes first: surprised that we are already at 1750, or daunting that we still have 75% to go…. Looking forward to it, 5250 km to is also a bit of an intimidating distance.
We first take a break in the shade and make a picture with the shadows of our hands to mark the point. We continue through the vineyards towards Rüdesheim.
Since it’s Sunday, many things are closed. Luckily we find a restaurant that’s open and have a good pasta meal. After that, Mark and I continue up the hill and Marleen takes the bus to the campsite.
The hill starts quite steep, so we soon are sweaty allover…🥵
We continue through the forest and get to the Rotenfelsen, a beautiful steep rock wall along the vineyards. Amazing views and a really cool track along the ridge follow. We enjoy the great views after our hard work up the hill an walk down again into the village of Nordheim. From there up again to get into the vineyards and we follow a beautiful trail through the vineyards. We have views over the river Nahe and the road below. At some point we can even wave at Marleen (or at least: at the bus she’s in) when it passes us.
When we cross the road, we take a break in the shade to loose some heat. It’s beautiful, but really hot today. After loosing some degrees, we continue through Niederhausen. After finishing the trail for today we head to Oberhausen, another 3,5 km of roadwalking in the sun. I stick my thumb up when I hear a car coming and before we leave the village we are in luck. A friendly guy named David stops and brings us all the way to the campsite. Thanks again David, we really appreciate it!
When we get out of the car we see Marleen with an ice cream. After getting an ice cream too, we pitch our tent, take a shower, do laundry and sit in the shade.
The friendly people at the campsite do a good dinner and with Marleen we sit on the terrace untill it finally cools down a little bit.
It’s been another great day of hiking, despite the hot weather.
