Weather:☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ (Too hot 🥵🥵)
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🥪 (4 out 5, late but very welcome lunch and drinks at restaurant Picnic. So technically we could call it a Picnic lunch 😁. Very friendly staff too.)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (5 out of 5 great trail through forest, vineyards and fields with amazing views)
Trail markings: ⭐⭐⭐ (3 out of 5, since the change in trail, we can actually follow it again. Sometimes we need to check it, but huge improvement. Thank you Pfälzerwald Verein!
Name of followed trail: ➕ Pfälzerwald Verein
Special mention: My best friend Marleen, who dared to join us as an inexperienced tramper, on a few of the hottest days so far and went het own way this morning. Thanks for coming Marleen, it’s been a great joy that you were able to come along!
We sleep in a little, but basically the sun buns us out of our tent anyway 😅. We have a luxury shower, pack our gear and go for breakfast. The people of the campsite made us a table and serves a great breakfast. They are very friendly and really like the story of our hike. Soon, you can view our photo on Camping Nahetal’s Facebook page as special guests 😁.
We go to the bus with Marleen, to go to Niederhausen. Marleen will travel further and will be making her way home. Sad to say goodbye again, but grateful for the days of hiking we had together. Great having you Marleen!
In Niederhausen we get to the bridge across the Nahe. From there, we’ll follow a new market, a white + now. From
the start, the markings are way better than the other ones, what a joy!
The forest trail goes up the hill to the Lemberghuette, and offers great views over the vineyards. On our way up, we have to stop a few times to cool down and drink some water.
During one of these breaks we meet a group of lovely ladies, and a man named Wolfgang. Both the ladies and Wolfgang enjoy our trail story while we have a chat with them. It was fun meeting all of you!
The Lemberghuette is an unexpected cafe, as we thought it would be closed. We get some drinks and have a chat with the family that is seated behind us. They tell about their experiences cycling and canoeing with a tent. Good to speak to some fellow travelers.
From the hut we continue on the trail that goes up and down a lot today. Mostly through the forest, but also thriu5ghr fields and vineyards. It’s nice and divers, eventhough the sun is really hot when we’re in the unsheltered fields.
I’m a bit tired and really feel the heat today. Luckily Mark is coping better with the heat than yesterday, so I can just tag along. It helps a lot to be able to just follow once in a while. And most of the time, there will always be one that feels better so he/she can lead the way.
On our way to Obermorschel we pass a source with cold, fresh water. Here we cool ourselves down. After that I’m feeling a lot better.
In Obermorschel we have lunch at a restaurant called Picnic. The lady behind the counter is really friendly and after she hears where we come from, we get a free drink. We need another one anyway and have a pizza and salad lunch here. After lunch we have a nice chat with the people from the restaurant and we continue our last few kilometers.
Again the trail goes up the hill (through the forest, lucky us) and after that it undulates through the fields. We can see almost 360° around us! In the afternoon sun we get to the farm where the have a hiker rest. Here hikers can get a drink or a snack whilst having beautiful views on a bench in a meadow.
The owners are super friendly and let us pitch our tent here, after I asked this per email a few days ago.
They have a guest toilet and a tap with towels to freshen up. We’re over the moon with these luxury options! We even get some bread with cheese and eggs from them. What a great place to stay.
We pitch our tent under a cherry tree and enjoy our rest, sitting on something with a backrest for a change. Towels. A backrest. Running water. Kindly gifted bread and cheese. It’s truly the little things we appreciate on these moments.
A great but hard day of hiking, and an amazing place to sta after our 70st day of hiking.
