Weather:☁️⛅🌧️⛅☁️
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🥪 (4 out 5, good lunch in Tauberbischofheim)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5, nice trail through forest, fields and villages)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, flat-ish, spot with shelter and bin)
Name of followed trail: Main Donau weg.
Special mention: The hospitality at a house in Ober Lauda, where we got invited for a drink while we walked past a house!
We start up the hill into the forest and follow an enjoyable trail. We pass by a chapel in the fields, where we barely fit in when we want to see inside…
When we’re back in the forest, we meet a woodworker who is splitting wood. We have a chat with him and he tells us that he’s been doing this for 60 years, and that it’s his hobby too. At 77 years old, he proudly gets his photo taken with his tractor if I promise to send it to him by post.
From there we walk on to Tauberbischofheim, where we have a good Italian lunch.
From there we walk on through the hills until we get to Hof Steinberg, where we have a break next to the cute little church. The village also has a distillery that makes schnapps. Since we like to drink a regional drink, we buy a pear schnapps.
The owner really likes the story of our journey, as do the people that we meet during our break at the church.
From there it’s another few kilometers to Ober Lauda, where we refill our waterbags at the fire station. From there it’s a short walk up the hill to the Schloßberghütte. On our way up, we walk past a house where the people are sitting outside. They ask us if we want a drink. We find out that the couple that invited us both work in shifts and they use the fact that they’ve got a day off on the same day as an excuse to invite some friends. And apparently also random hikers…😂
The random hikers happily say yes to the invitation and before we know it, were having a drink at a party with total strangers. What a great surprise! We enjoy the spontaneity of this moment and after a while we continue our way up the hill.
When we pass a little chapel, I light a candle in gratitude for all the beautiful people we meet and the goodness we receive.
At the hut we first find the flattest spots for our tents and make a nice meal together. And then, after a little schnapps, it’s time for bed after another beautiful and surprising day.

Around the world in 80 days. Congrats
