After a good night of sleep, we pack our bags to leave, when we hear a truck coming.. Apparently our tent is about 20m next to a forest road that is quite busy at 7.00 in the morning 😅
We start our walk in the shade of the trees and are grateful for that. The heat starts to come through early today and it feels like a hot blanket around us. We walk through a village and some fields and are happy to feel a little bit of wind to cool us doen. We ask for extra water in the next village, Saxberg, and eat some cherries wherever we find a cherry tree.
From Saxberg we walk through fields and forest to Sinzig. We walk past a couple of lumberjacks who are telling a massive tree, right over the trail. Luckily there is an easy way around. We also rejoin the Jerusalem way once again. The Peace Walk will be a few weeks behind us I guess. I’d be fun to meet them on trail. We walk into the second Sinzig this hike. The first one was in the Ahr valley. This Sinzig is in the Donau valley.
We have a break here in a bakery cafe before we walk the last 6 km to Regensburg, in the other side of the Donau.
It’s hot on the roads, and with more hot days expected, we decide that we need an umbrella. At the DM we buy 2 very cheerful ones, to fit in the backpacks. The ladies at the DM ask about our hike, and are surprised by the answer. They want to know more, so a short happy conversation takes place at the cashier.
When we’re outside, they even want a photo of us 😁. Famous in Regensburg. Thank you ladies, for the enthusiasm!
We walk into the old town of Regensburg and go to our appartment. We arrive there at 14.30. Still so much time to relax!It’s a lovely place with great common cool seating area in the basement, great for doing nothing 😁
We take a shower and do our laundry (twice to be sure it’s clean..).
While it’s in the dryer, we go for dinner. We have a good meal at an Asian restaurant around the corner. Food arrives in no time. It’s as if they are in a contest of serving food in the most efficient way! Less than 30 minutes later, were outside again, after a 2-course meal, a bit baffled by what just happened 😂.
Now we’re back in our ‘relaxation fridge’s, as we named the seating area, planning the next section and finding out where to buy what tomorrow.
