Day 108, Reichenauerwald – Weitra

Weather: ⛅☁️🌧️⛅🌧️☁️
Picnic: 🥪 (1 out 5, we forgot that it’s Monday, so every cafe is closed. lunch was mueslbars and some nuts today..😅)
Track: 🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹 (4 out of 5, beautiful trail through forest, along a river and through the countryside)
Hotel: 🛌🛌🛌 (3 out of 5, nice room, good shower and friendly hosts)
Name of followed trail: Nord Sud weg (605), Grenzlandweg (607)

Before we leave, we get a lovely breakfast from Rosalie as a goodbye gift. This young lady is a very thoughtful 7 year old hostess indeed!

We have an enjoyable, mostly easygoing walk today. The trail follows some streams through the forest and sometimes comes out to go into tiny villages where you buy your newspaper from an honesty box on a lamppost.

After the first 11 kilometers we go up to the Nebelstein hütte (closed on Monday) and enjoy the view up there. It’s a cool day today, with perfect hiking weather, except for a few small rain showers.

On our way to our destination of Weitra we hope to find a place for lunch, but all the cafés are closed on Mondays. We do find several honesty boxes with some drinks, so we didn’t go thirsty along the way!

The walk down into Weitra is really pretty, through the forest along the river. I really love the Austrian landscape ♥️.

Weitra is a fortified town build on a hill next to the river. It’s a pretty medival town with colorful houses. And for some reason, they raised the Dutch flag on the castle… Lovely to see the effort they go through to make us feel welcome 😅😂.

We get to our appartment and are welcomed by a friendly host who shows us our room. We enjoy a good shower, do our laundry and relax a bit before we get ourselves a well-deserved meal!

After dinner, we catch up on our blog and administration, before it’s time to sleep.
