Day 164, Ieud – La Jgheaburi campsite

Weather: ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🥪 (4 out 5, Soup and bread at the restaurant at pasul Setref)
Track: 🇷🇴🇷🇴 (2 out of 5, First half was roadwalking, after the Setref pass tough track up the mountain with great views)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, slightly on an angle, with water and great views)
Name of followed trail: E8

After a great breakfast we leave Ieud. We decide to follow the road instead of the track, because of yesterday’s experience with the unmarked trails of the E8 here. It makes for a less interesting walk, but it also gives Mark an easy start on his new shoes, and it makes it possible to find a pharmacy.

In Dragomiresti we pass a school where we here ‘hello!’ from every window of the building, but we didn’t get further than that, though I guess we would have been a fine practical English class passing by 😅

After Dragomiresti we walk on a 2 way bicycle path up the hill. It feels bit strange, because we only see 1 person on a bicycle in the whole way, but I guess they are prepared for future herds of cyclists…

The cycle path continues as a gravel road and then a steep 4×4 track and brings us to the Setref pass. Here 2 impressive monuments divide the 2 counties of Maramures and Bistrita Nadaud.

There is also a restaurant where we have a late lunch. From here it’s another 5 kilometer, mostly straight up the hill.

It’s a steep track, but it gives beautiful views over the valley. When we get to the designated campsite, we find an abandoned shepherd hut and some pens for the sheep. We pitch our tent on the most flat spot we can find hang our still damp laundry and enjoy the view. What a beautiful spot once again!
