Day 191, Hapria – Alba Iulia

Weather: ⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪 (5 out 5, burritos at a restaurant in Alba Iulia)
Track: 🇷🇴🇹🇩🇹🇩 (3 out of 5, nice trail through the fields in the hills with great views)
Hotel: 🛏️🛏️🛏️🛏️ (4 out of 5, lovely spacious apartment with a washing machine and good shower in the city centre)
Name of followed trail: Via Transilvanica
Special mention: the VT art on the Borna’s (kilometer markers) was very cool today!

We wake up before the donkeys starts braying. When they do, the involuntary and loud sound does make us laugh (and happy that it wasn’t our alarm).

The house is still dark when we are almost done packing, but when Mark is boiling water for our breakfast, Octavia comes outside and invites us in for breakfast. We have no issue with 2 breakfasts in 1 morning, so we go inside after we finished our first breakfast…😅

After 2nd breakfast we say goodbye to our wonderful hosts and start our hike to Alba Iulia. We hike through the fields again, with great views. We can see Alba Iulia from afar. The hike through the fields is nice, because of the views, but we especially enjoy the different Borna’s. These stone artworks are placed as kilometer markers along the 1400 km Via Transilvanica. They make this trail ‘the worlds longest open air art exhibition’. Sometimes the Borna’s are very simple, or to abstract for us. Today we find many cool ones, where artists really paid hommage to their country with traditional symbols, or truly thought out of the box!

After about 20 km we hike into the busy traffic of Alba Iulia. There we go to the Décathlon to get some clothes for the coming autumn. Unfortunately for me, they have less options for female hikers (as usual, because women don’t hike I guess 🤬😡) so we go out with a new set of clothes for Mark and a pair of gloves and socks for me. We get some more replacement things and then home to the centre of town to have a good coffee and lunch. From here, it’s a short walk to our lovely apartment.

We take some time to spread out our gear in the spare bedroom and have a shower, before it’s time for dinner. After dinner I go for a haircut (Last one was 5,5 months ago in Schiedam…). Adina does a great job and I leave her shop as a happy person!

After that I go home. Time for a good night of sleep!
