Day 199, Bucova – Otelu Rosu

Weather: ⛅☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ (rating 6 out of 5, perfect hiking weather!)
Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, bread from the supermarket in one of the villages)
Track: 🇷🇴🇹🇩🇹🇩🇹🇩 (4 out of 5, really nice trail through the valley, fields and villages, with great mountain views)
Hotel: 🛏️🛏️ (2 out of 5, small, basic appartment with bed in kitchen)
Name of followed trail: Via Transilvanica
Special mention: Marks brother Frank, who took the time to go to our house and got some extra winter gear + did some chores in the house to keep it ready to get back to.

We get a nice breakfast at pension Mimi and leave around 9.00. Before we leave, we have a chat with one of the Danish guests who went on a hunting trip yesterday and shot a bear. He is very proud that he got it, and eventhough it’s not our cup of tea, we congratulate him on this succes.

We set out on a beautiful sunny autumn morning and enjoy the walk, first on the old railway track, later through the fields valley. We pass a few villages and even a fairly large supermarket where we get some bread for a second breakfast and for lunch!

When we’re on the old railway track, Frank calls us. He’s at our house to get some of our extra winter gear. We virtually walk with him though our house and get to pick out whatever we need. Strange to be so close yet so far away from home, but we’re really happy that Frank went. Not the least because he always checks if the whole house still looks and smells like a normal house, and otherwise fixes it. Thanks again Frank!

Around 13.00 we are halfway and have a lunch break in the sun that we now cherish (instead of curse like a few months ago)

We continue on the trail through the valley and just before we get to Otelu Rosu, we walk past a group of workers on a break. As we walk past they try to make conversation and immediately offer us a bottle of Coke, to bring with us. We have a chat with them in a combination of English and German and drink half of the bottle. They really want us to keep it, so we take it along to drink with our dinner.

We get to our appartment around 17.30. It’s a studio with the bed in the kitchen (which reminds me of a Loesje postcard I had that said: if you want breakfast in bed, you can sleep in the kitchen) but it has all we need.

We go to the profi supermarket around the corner and get ourselves ready made lasagna and some pudding. Lazy comfort food. After 32 km we’re fine with that 😁😅!

After dinner we relax and I catch up with our blog, before we go to sleep. Tomorrow to Caransebes, where we’ll have a zeroday 🎉
