Day 100, Saldenburg – Oberilzmühle

Marks birthday today, and our 100th hiking day! Time flies when you’re having fun!

We woke up early and I made Mark waffle pie with custard and raspberries for breakfast 😁.

The day starts with a short bit up hill and we soon reach the river Ilz that we follow the rest of the day. It’s a beautiful undulating trail along river. We enjoy watching the water flow, and the forested banks.

We don’t enjoy the tons of insects that buzz around us and often see us as free meal… Mark contemplates on asking and entrance fee, because he’s starting to feel like a zoo with all these animals on him…😅.

We have a great break at Gasthaus Segl at the Schrottenbaummühle. Although they are busy and the kitchen is still closed, the lady of the gasthaus makes sure we get bacon and eggs, everything home made and locally sourced, she proudly tells us! We have to say, it’s indeed delicious 😋 ! Before we leave, we bring 2 smoked trouts for lunch.

We enjoy these a few hours later, when we find a picnic bench along the river, with an access to the river. We first cool down by sitting in the water, before we have lunch. Mark cleans the fish and we enjoy this birthday lunch!

We continue the track along the river that gets quite tough towards the end, because it seems to be either up and down the track. I somehow missed this in the elevation profile 😅.

We do see a train on the old railway next to the trail. We guessed that there wouldn’t be any. Since it’s a museum tram, I guess we were half right 😉.

We reach our destination, a spring with a picnicbench around 6. Across the path, there is a good place to pitch, but there are also a few boats there. We decide to wait a bit with pitching and first relax at the spring.

After a while we pitch. wat and bathe, before we go to bed after a wonderful day!
