A beautiful yet hot day of hiking. We left around 7.15 to beat the heat. We made good progress today, despite the hills and the sunny trails.
The markings weren’t always as good, but with the watch that warned us when we went wrong, we found our way nicely. It did help that we found out a few days ago that E8 is marked with a green triangle, and even that the Main Donau weg is partly marked with this. That would have helped a lot from am Hirschenstein onwards… So now we know, and so do you 😁.
After our start we turn away from. the Ilz and go up the hills, where we have a nice view over Passau. We continue through the fields, where it’s really hot. So hot that a lady offers us a lift up the hill. Ofcourse we refuse, but we love the gesture anyways!
In Thyrsau we have a drink and later at a swimming lake, we have lunch with a toastie.
We fly through our day today, which is good, because we need to make a few extra kilometers, because we moved our zeroday a few kilometers.
We pass our highest point on the King Max height and find a finished festival there. Too bad, maybe we would’ve enjoyed Blackdoors festival 😁.
our next stop is zum Toni, where we have a meal. We sort of misplanned our resupply and because it’s Sunday, the shops are closed. So we have no dinner with us, just wraps and Nutella/ peanut butter…
We enjoy our meal at Toni’s, as well as our company. We are invited to a table in the shade by 2 ladies and we have a lovely conversation.
We continue our walk along the Auerbach, where we hope to pitch our tent next to the river. On paper this is a perfect place. Reality however is that it’s a pretty track, but no place to pitch our tent. Green undergrowth of nettles, blackberries etc is everywhere, and there are a million horseflies looking for a meal…
We walk on, looking first for a perfect spot, then for an acceptable spot😅.
Just before the next village, a few kilometers further than planned, we find a spot. We can make access to an ice cold stream, so we’re able to cool ourselves down sufficiently, so that we’re no longer the most interesting horsefly bait.
In our tent we rest after a pretty and warm day. We eat our wraps with Nutella and play songs on our phone. I laugh at the scene of 2 adults with all the possibilities in life, sitting in a tent AKA horsefly bunker, eating cold wraps with Nutella. And they are actually happy about their life choices too!
It’s a crazy hiker life. It’s my hiker life♥️.
