Day 109 Weitra – Amaliendorf

Weather: ⛅☁️🌧️⛅🌧️☁️
Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪🥪🥪 (5 out 5, picnic with good bread from Weitra, next to the surprise supermarket we found in Dietmanns, for cheese and bacon. And free bananas as dessert gift from the man in the supermarket)
Track: 🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹🇦🇹 (4 out of 5, beautiful trail through plains and heather, forest and along a river)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, nice spot in the forest, popular with ants and mosquitoes too)
Name of followed trail: Grenzlandweg (607)

We leave our hotel after breakfast and go for a coffee at a bakery. From there we walk through the fortified town onto the wide rolling hills on the other side. It feels like we’re hiking through the landscape of a model railway. Even the train is on smaller tracks, to add to the effect. Mark wonders when we’ll hike past an enormous table or chair …😅

The landscape is completely different than the last few days. It’s more of a plain than the hills we had before. It’s beautiful again and in the cool weather we enjoy the walk. In Dietmanns we walk past a supermarket and get some bacon and cheese to pimp our lunch. The man in the store gives us some bananas as a dessert, very kind!

After a nice long break, we continue our walk through beautiful forest with big rocks, a lovely river trail and a heather area with a little forest cafe.

We have a drink there and when we’re about to leave, we see a group of scouts coming. Ofcourse we have a chat with them. They are at summer camp and enjoy our meeting just as much as we do. After a group picture, we go our own way, to walk the final 10 kilometers of today. In the sleepy town Eugenia we get some water and we find a nice spot un the forest to camp.

We share our spot with quite some ants and mosquitoes, but it’s a nice spot. We make a nice couscous dinner, with sausage and capsicum.

After a cup of tea it’s time for bed!
