Weather: ☀️🌤️☀️🌤️🌤️
Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, bread from the supermarket at a picnic place with a closed cafe)
Track: 🇦🇹🇦🇹 (overall 2 out of 5, Cool to walk out of Vienna for 2 km, after that 32 km of uneventful (road)walking through forested flatlands)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, flat, grassy spot next to a cornfield)
Name of followed trail: Grenzlandweg (07)
We packed our bags and leave Vienna. Mark feels well again, the rest days have done both of us well.
Well rested, we start our ‘2nd half’ of the walk to Istanbul. It feels a bit like leaving the North Island of New Zealand behind, on our way to the infamous South island.
The walk is not that interesting, but we’re happily surprised by being called ‘young people’ twice today!
A friendly couple even asked if we were still students…🤔 We think it’s because of the rest, and our skills that we learned by observing the Instagram photoshoot girls everywhere in Vienna. Mark took a photo of my now normal way of walking 😜
Along the way we see serious consequences of the draught here. In all of Europe it’s been hot and dry for a while now and here too the water levels are low and the plants are looking dried out.
We get our own water at a small cafe in trail and walk the last 3 km to our campsite. We pitch next to a cornfield. Later we hear and see cars in the field and for a split second we think they might move the sprinklers… Luckily they are at another job 😅.
We enjoy a beautiful sunset and get into bed.
