After a good night of sleep, we wake up to a dry tent, despite the predicted rain. Happy to pack dry, we have breakfast and get going.
Today is mainly wide tracks, with easy slopes up and down. Reins ideal terrain 😁. The views are again very nice, and with the cloudy sky the landscape becomes even more dramatic.
The predicted rain does come, so we get our raincovers on our packs. It’s to warm for rain jackets. Luckily we hike through the forest that gives some shelter.
We walk past a really cool, brand new hut. We are making good time today, and it isn’t a long day, so there is plenty of time for a nice, long break. Inside we have a cup of soup and dry a bit, while it rains outside. We enjoy our break here and share the hut with 2 Slovakian men, who share a drink with us (or actually 2, because you apparently need one for the other leg too…😂). They are nice men, with whom we have a fun conversation and some jokes on alcoholic drinks that are easily understandable without too many words of English or Slovak.
When the weather has cleared, we’re on our way again, to the same hut as our new hiker friends, Útulna Galova.
They get there way before us (and claim it’s full, with a wide grin on their faces). They sleep inside, we pitch our tent. The hut is skillfully made and well stocked with pots, pans and other useful items.
We have a wonderful afternoon, sitting on the swing bench, relaxing at the hut. I also go for a shower at the spring nearby. Refreshing (🥶🥶🥶) but with one of the best views a shower can have!
After that, it’s time for dinner and dessert. Thanks to Rein, there are plenty of desserts for us to enjoy this week (he convinced Mark to bring some ‘Creme Olé’ powder from the supermarket).
After a cup of tea and a Telgart Viadukt drink, we go to bed.
