Day 145, Útulna Galova – Chata Volovec

Track: 🇸🇰🇸🇰🇸🇰🇸🇰 (4 out of 5, Nice track through the forest, with a lot of nice views)
Track intensity: 😯😯😯, really doable for all three of us!)
Mountain hut: 🛌🛌🛌🛌 (4 out of 5, good beds in a dorm, outdoor shower and good food)

After a rainy but good night of sleep we wake up to a beautiful mountain view.

We have breakfast and go on our way. The trail is pretty and the views are really good. There are some steep parts up, but nothing crazy like last week 😅😅.

We have lunch on a spot out of the wind, in the sun. Here Rein summarizes the tough hikers life: “I can sit on a tree, but then I get a wooden ass, I can sit in the sun but then I get hot, and when I sit in the shade, the ground is wet…” So you all see: life is tough when you are a hiker 😂😂😂.

On our way we pass quite a few wooden poles in stone cairns. They all have a number. We’ve seen these throughout Slovakia, but haven’t been able to find out their meaning. So if any of you know what it is, let us know!

We hike to Chata Volovec, a pretty hut a few hundred meters below the Skalisko top. We decide to keep the top for tomorrow and take the lower track to the hut. The views are just as beautiful it seems.

The hut is a nice place with benches in the sun and a beautiful view. Time for a Kofola, to bring a toast on another beautiful day of hiking.

We decide to treat ourselves and sleep in the hut today. There is good food and we have a goulash soup (we are getting close to Hungary) and some jam dumplings as dessert.

We are here with quite some fellow SNP hikers and enjoy the exchange of trail stories, that we share despite the language barrier. Hiking truly connects people. They seem like scouts without the scarf. Connected through nature and shared experiences on trail ♥️.
