We start early today, because we have another long day ahead.

Not the most interesting hiking day today. Fields, dykes, a few road sections and 2 villages, is basically what we saw in our 34km hike today. We were happy that it was cloudy today, it even rained a little!

The long, straight dusty roads give us both a real thru-hiker like feeling. Only they are crazy enough to hike it all, fun, beautiful, bad, boring or tough. It’s part of the trail, so we’ll walk it anyway.

The first bit of trail is hard, because it’s overgrown. Luckily it gets better after a while. When the trail goes through a cemetery, we get some extra water there.

We continue our hike until we get to the Cigánd, around noon, 20 kilometers do s by then. At the roundabout we find a supermarket and a cafe where they sell Langós; deep-fried bread with cheese, garlic and other nice toppings. Not the most healthy meal, so I get 2 nectarines from the supermarket as a health compensation 😅.

After our break, we continue to the next village, 9 km ahead. From there it’s only 4 more kilometers to our planned campspot. In the village we are a bit frowned upon, apparently few hikers come through here.

We find Anita’s buffet, a tiny cafe (more, a window in the wall) where we get a drink. We find a place on the terrace, where we wonder about Anita’s very strict non-smoking policy…😅. While we sit on the roofed terrace, we hear rain falling! Surprised by this, we count ourselves lucky again with our (completely accidental) timing! After our second drink, the rain stops, we fill our water and continue to find a campspot.

Out of the village we walk into a forest, and across some fields with sunflowers and an unfamiliar crop. It takes time for Mark to recognize it, but when he smells a dry leave, he is positive. We found a tabacco field!

From here, we walk a little further and find a campspot in an empty field near the edge of the forest. We pitch tent and relax, happy that we’re done for today.

Tomorrow, another 30+ kilometer day!
