Day 153, Rétközberencs – Rohod

Weather: 🌤️☀️🌤️🌤️☀️
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🥪 (4 out 5, in the shade next to a church with bread and cheese from the Tesco in Kisvarda)
Track: 🇭🇺🇭🇺🇭🇺 (3 out of 5, track through green fields and villages. Still boring, but better than yesterday)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, flat spot in a forested area)
Name of followed trail: E3

Today starts with a surprise drop of rain on the tent. It’s gone in a few minutes, but surprising anyway.

We start hiking to Kisvarda, where we get a 2nd breakfast and lunch at the Tesco. We walk through the village, which has quite some little stores. The towns here seem to have more of these small shops than in Slovakia.

The houses here have creative ways to get rid of the rainwater from their roofs. They all seem to look for the quickest way to dump it on the street!

From Kisvarda we continue through a forest, where we get stuck on our trail, because its blocked with felled trees and workers are digging a long ditch for big power cables across our path. Luckily, the friendly workers understand our problem when we stick our heads out of the bush from the other side of the ditch, and they help us both across.

In the next village we cross, we get some water from one of the pumps they have in every village. A good thing to have for hikers, although it is probably more for locals…😅.

One village further we have lunch at the church, where we find a bench in the shade. By then we’ve walked 20 kilometers. Another 12 to go today.

We walk to Nyirkarasz through more tabacco fields and also see (and smell) the drying facilities of the leaves. Funny to see an industry we know so little about!

From Nyirkarasz we continue into the forest, where we find a place to pitch.

There, we make our noodle meal and our newly bought Hungarian Paradiescreme dessert (!) and relax a bit before we go to bed.
