Day 156, Piricse – Carei

Weather: 🌧️☁️⛅☀️☀️
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, in the shade with bread, next to the supermarket in Foieni)
Track: 🇭🇺🇷🇴 (2 out of 5, dusty, sandy track through fields, forest and villages.)
Milestone: Hungary ✅
Hotel: 🛌🛌🛌 (3 out of 5, nice room with good shower)
Name of followed trail: Maria Út

We woke up in the middle of the night with rain on our tent. This meant we needed to get up and act, because we left the outer tent off 😅!

With a slightly damp sleeping bag, we fell asleep again. In the morning, it was still drizzling. Luckily it stopped at the moment we were done packing and ready to get out of the tent!

We walk the, now less dusty, tracks for 5 kilometers until we get to the Romanian border. Time to hike into our 8th country this trip. We’ll be in Romania for about 2 months, so it will be a while before we get to the next country again. So many kilometers to walk, towns to cross, mountains to climb and people to meet here 🙂.

We continue on the Maria Út to the village of Foieni. When I look at my watch it seems like we’ve taken forever to get there, but I soon find out that we’ve walked out of our own timezone when we entered Romania. That’s a first 😅!

Foieni is a larger town than we expected, and it even has a small supermarket! We get our lunch here and some soda’s from a very helpful lady at the counter.

After our lunch it’s only another 7 kilometers to Carei, where we have booked a hotel.

We walk through the countryside measuring our new country to what we know and expect. They share the Hungarian opinion on dumping rainwater onto the streets, the streets are tidy and the people friendly. There are more shops than we expected, and we get our first ride offered within 10 kilometers from the border. So far, we like Romania 😁.

Around 14.30 we arrive at our hotel in Carei. Carei is a nice city with a small castle in the centre, surrounded by a park. There are quite a few shops and restaurants too. We check in and have a good shower after 2 dusty days!

After that (and a hand wash of our clothes), we go for a resupply and a good meal at restaurant ‘the table of Charles’. We enjoyed a very good meal here, with a friendly waiter (and a slightly surprised one, after he asked what brought us to Carei..).
