Name of followed trail: Via Transilvanica
After a good breakfast, we start around 8.00. In the city centre, we pick up the signs of the Via Transilvanica. From here the plan is follow this trail to the Romanian-Serbian border at Dubreta Turnu Severin.
The trail marking is great, so it’s easy to follow. The trail today is mainly dirt track or gravel road, so the track is also easily walkable. Both features make us really happy, and hopeful for the rest of the Via Transilvanica!
We walk through fields and forest, over some gradual hills and have lunch in one of the meadows. The meadows are full of autumn crocus flowers, really beautiful! Along the way we also see the Via Transilvanica artwork, every kilometer there is a stone marker. Every one is made by an artist.
Through the meadows we walk to the town of Martinis. We have a break here at the La doi pasi shop and have a drink. After Martinis it’s only 3,5 kilometers to Rares, where we have a pension. Along the way we meet a pack of dogs, but luckily we can keep them at a distance.
Around 14.30, we get to our pension. A short day today, eventhough we walked 24 kilometers. It was an enjoyable, easy track today, after all the road walking of the last week. Our pension is a nice place with a restaurant. We first have a rest, an then an early dinner with risotto.
Around 17.00, we go to our room to relax. It feels like a hiking holiday!
