We get up and pack our tent after a quiet night. We start in our fleece, because it’s been cold tonight. We hike though a beautiful forest and come across a hunting party that informa us about their boar hunt. The next hour we keep meeting friendly men with rifles, dressed in orange 😅.

We hike through the forest to the village of Biertan, with its fortified church. It looks like a fairytale village from above. We walk through and get lunch at a cafe here. From Biertan we climb up and walk along the ridge of the hills surrounding Biertan. The track gives us beautiful views over the hills and behindcrhat, the Fagaras mountains. With the leaves turning autumn colors, it’s even more beautiful 😍.

We get out into a field where we celebrate our 4750 km point. By now we’ve surpassed 2 of the 3 big American thru-hikes and our New Zealand one in length. Still another 2250 to go 😅! And although this sounds really far, slowly we’re getting to the point of counting down. But first: get to 5000 km, our magical distance!

We have a nice break at our 4750 point and continue through the village of Rochus before hiking through the fields to Nemsa, our finish for today. We have a basic room in a pension, where the lady of the house cooks us a delicious meal of regional dishes 😋. She makes a good cherry liquor as well…

We meet her son and grandson. Her Grandson Gabriel lives in Canada and therefore speaks very good English. We have a lovely chat with him about Romania, Canada and travelling. Sharing travel stories is always fun 😁.

After that, we relax some in our room before we go to bed.
