Weather: 🌤️🌤️☁️☁️☁️
Picnic: 🌯🌯🌯 (3 out of 5, reasonable spot, slightly sunny, lunch with wraps and bananas!)
Track: ☘️☘️☘️☘️ (4 out of 5, nice tracks and roads, beautiful views, lovely forest and a hut at the end!)
Reward of the day: 🍺🔥 finding a beer to drink at the fire after cleaning up the hut.
Irish discovery of the day: It ain’t breakfast when it doesn’t have bacon and sausages… Challenging when you’re looking for a non-fried breakfast 😅😅
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5 reasonably flat, at a hut with a fire pit and a bench with backrest!)
Name of followed trail: Wicklow way
This morning it was time to pack the bags and hike onwards. But first it was time for breakfast!
As mark is trying to stay away from to much fried food (but doesn’t want porridge either), he decided to have a breakfast baguette. Much to his surprise, this basically meant: full Irish breakfast on a baguette…😅😂😂
So we learned that breakfast in Ireland has bacon, black and white pudding, eggs and sausages, unless mentioned otherwise! I had a lovely plate of pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and a good laugh when I saw mark breakfast coming in!
After breakfast we get back on the Wicklow way, hiking up and down hills, with great views and lovely forest and fields. A great day of hiking with a sunny morning and cloudy but dry afternoon. We’re really lucky with the weather so far!
We find a place for lunch and see some sheep being herded by a car passing by. Lunch is a bit of a luxury today, because we have bananas left from yesterday! Little things can make you happy on trail 🤗
After lunch it’s another 10 km of up and down the hills to our campsite at Mucklagh hut. We meet two Dutch ladies along the way who are also on the
Wicklow way, using B&B’s to spend the night. At the hut we find a Danish hiker, busy trail this Wicklow way!
Unfortunately there is a lot of trash around the hut, so we tidy up as much as possible and make a nice fire to get rid of some of the trash too. Whilst tidying up, we find 3 beers left in the hut! We will take that as a thank you for cleaning up! So we spend a nice evening at the fire, before it is hikers bedtime.
