Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪🥪(4 out of 5, nice bread from the bakery, forgot to bring some toppings though… great 2nd lunch with pancakes in Bergambacht!)

Special mention: The pancakes at the restaurant Onder de Molen in Bergambacht!
After a good breakfast we left Kim and Richard and went on our way again. We walk through a sunny polderlandscape of grasslands, cows, flowers and small canals. Spring at its best, everything is in bloom! The only downside is that the roads are long and straight. Perfect for cycling, a little less interesting when walking.
We find a bakery with a lovely lady in Moordrecht (“are you sure you don’t need these cookies?”) and take the ferry across the IJssel. After 13 km we find a bench for lunch and take some time to relax, taking it easier than yesterday. We need to be kind to ourselves.
After a nice break we hike another 8 km before we can officially celebrate our 1000 km mark! We get cheese from a cheese farm along the way, to celebrate this milestone tonight.
A few kilometers further we get to Bergambacht, where we get goodies to pimp our couscous meal. and they have a pancake restaurant at a windmill! I think we missed this one on the bingo cart yesterday…😅 We’re happy with this, because we were already looking forward to having pancakes in the Netherlands!
After having our mael we have a chat with the owner, who is quite the sportsmen himself. He has a similar drive to try and stretch the physical boundaries of the body. After a nice chat, we continue on our final stretch to our chosen campsite, one of our few free camping nights. We find a lovely spot in the estuary of the Lek river and take a rest in the evening sun before we make dinner and pitch tent.
In the tent we celebrate our 1000 km mark. 6000 more to go!
Zijn jullie het die ik vanmiddag tegenkwam en zo vriendelijk waren om een stukje contra mee te lopen, om te luisteren wat er gezegd werd op mijn tablet?
Zo ja, goed aangekomen in Buren?(hebben ze overigens ook lekkere pannenkoeken)

Hallo Wim, ja dat waren wij! We hebben daar inderdaad heerlijke pannenkoeken gehad!
Omdat jullie tocht te vergelijken is met the Way to Jerusalem (Peacewalk), waarbij wij betrokken zijn, en wij 26 april 65 jaar getrouwd zijn, gaan wij de lopers bij aankomst in Culemborg op 27 april trakteren.
Ik las iets over doneer een snack, wij hebben € 25 overgemaakt om jullie ook te trakteren, maar gezien de afstand moeten jullie deze zelf kopen.
Als ik 28 april zelf meeloop met de Peacewalk, zal ik ongetwijfeld aan jullie denken en zeggen zoals wij dat in het verleden heel wat keren gedaan hebben: Buon Camino.

Hallo Wim, wat een ontzettend lieve traktatie. We zullen er iets lekkers van halen en proosten op jullie 65- jarig huwelijk! Wat een tijd, en wat een mooie manier om het te vieren. Veel plezier met alles rondom de peace walk! Buon Camino!
