We leave the hotel before 8.00, because we have a long day ahead of us. The forest is fresh and bright green after yesterday’s rain. Today’s trail leads us mainly through forest and along rivers and brooks. It’s a beautiful area! We walk through Kaldenkirche and find a café to get 2nd breakfast! Good, because we’re running out of snacks and all shops are closed on Sunday in Germany…😅
From Kaldenkirche we continue our walk in the forest. With very little straight stretches and some beautiful old trees it’s a very enjoyable hike today! Everything is bright and green, and we’re happy to see that the elderflower is starting to bloom! Soon the scent of elderflower will be very present again on our trail, we hope. This scent brings back good memories of our hike to Kandersteg!
We walk past a few Dutch trail markings, so we’re close to the border. Some of the trails Meander across the border here. We walk with one foot in the Netherlands and one in Germany, right on the border 😁. We get to café de Grens (the border) and have lunch there. We’ve been here before, when we hiked the Pieterpad, the Dutch north-south trail, 17 years ago. We now have a great lunch here with soup, bread and..nachos!
After lunch it’s another 15 beautiful kilometers until the camping where we’ll stay tonight. Unfortunately it starts to rain, but in our raincoats we still enjoy the walk.
We get to the camping around 17.15. Total distance today: 38 km! Satisfied we pitch tent and take a shower. I. the Balkan restaurant nearby we gave a great dinner before we get into bed.
