Weather:☁️🌧️🌥️🌧️🌥️ 🌧️(we practiced getting in and out of raingear several times today. I think soon we’ll earn our merit badge ‘change into raingear’)
Picnic: 🍓🍓🍓🍨🍨 (5 out 5, we found a farm shop across from a picnic bench and had strawberries and lemon ice cream in the sun!)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5, nice track through forest and farmlands, with nice views)
Hotel: 🛌🛌🛌( 3 out of 5, practical hotel with closed restaurant, again!)
Name of followed trail: Krönungsweg
We have a small breakfast with wraps and walk the first 5 km to the bakery in Kirchheim. In Kirchheim we have a chat with the owner of a VW camper, who’s very proud of his car!
At the bakery we get a good breakfast. After that we’re on our way again through the fields and forests. We are looking for a place to have a break when we get to a building that has a strawberry on the outside… There is also a farm shop that sells strawberries and a lot more, including ice cream!
Since it’s dry, we can have a break on the picnic bench across the road. A perfect picnic lunch when paired with the laugenbrötchen that we brought from the bakery! We get to enjoy it in the sunshine too! This is great, because we’ve been practicing our ‘swiftly changing into raingear’ skills a lot today. We are both wondering when we are good enough to earn a merit badge for it. We think quite soon…😅😅
On our way we see some damage that has been done by the flood of 2021 to this area. In Rheinbach we find a memorial to it as well.
We also find some kids in distress because the bicyclechain came off from one of their bikes and none of them seem able to fix it. So I fixed the bike, got applause from the kids and continued into Rheinbach to get a cup of tea in a cute tea shop.
After tea (a d after surprising one of our fellow customers with our story) we go to the Rheinbach brewery café for dinner. We are not disappointed! We get a nice big meal and a good beer. Quite happy with this after 2 days of ordering a delivery meal.
We walk to our hotel, a little outside of the town, in the rain. We pass a very low tunnel under a busy road and we’re there. Inside there’s a sign: restaurant closed tonight…. We’re so happy we decided to eat before coming!😅😅😅
We get to our room and have some coffee and tea. This time Mark doesn’t need to put the gas burner on in the shower, because we have an actual cooker 😁
