Weather:☁️🌧️☁️🌧️☁️ (‘Irish dry’ most of the day. Rain that’s not worth putting on your raingear)
Lunch: 🍰🍰🍕🍕🍕 (5 out 5, late lunch in Andernach. First a really good piece of cake in a café where the kitchen was closed, and then a Pinsa (pizza like dish) in the restaurant across the street)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🥵 (4 out of 5 + 1 pfooh for the steepness of the hills today. The great views made up for it though. Great trail today)
Milestone: 1000 miles!!
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺⛺⛺ ( 5 out of 5, camping in the garden of the manor of Gut Nettehammer)
Name of followed trail: Jakobs weg
After a good night of sleep, under the fluffiest duvet I’ve seen, we go for breakfast. The tables are all set and we even have a candle! The breakfast is really nice too!
We chat a little with our fellow guests who are here for the 24-hour race at the Neurenberg ring, where Max Verstappen is now participating. These two are big fans of him. Funny to hear about this completely different world of sports. After breakfast we pack our bags and go downstairs. The lady of the hotel has a small bottle of sekt (sparkling wine) as a goodbye gift.
We walk out of Bad Breisig and go up the hills into the forest. After that we walk out of the forest (down the hill) into another village. From there, up again into the forest! Tough hiking, beautiful trail and even better views!
After these steep hills we stay level for a while and walk through an old roman era quarry. When we walk into the fields, we reach our 1000 Mike point. We walked 500 miles and 500 more! Singing along with the Proclaimers, we make a toast to another 1000 miles, with our bottle of sekt!
After this special moment of celebration , we continue our trail into the forest, towards Andernach. On our way there are quite a few good viewpoints, one of which has turning chairs. They ware really fun!
In Andernach we went for a late lunch. Unfortunately the first restaurant just did cakes at this time, so I had to have cake. Poor me…😁😁
After this really good piece of cake, we went across the street for Pinsa, a bread like fluffy pizza.
Happy and with a full stomach, we leave Andernach. We walk out of the village in search of a place to pitch, but the forest is not open enough to camp. We walk on to a second option, but there is also no good spot. We continue for 2 more options and after they fail I decided to try our ‘asking really works’ lesson again.
Now we are pitched in the gardens of Gut Nettehammer, a beautiful estate with a very friendly owner 😁.
