Day 64, Andernach – Koblenz

Weather:☁️🌧️🌧️☁️☁️ (raingear needed this time)
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪🙂🙂 (3 out 5 for the bread and coffee at a gas station + 2 smileys for 2 happy hikers out of the rain!)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5 first part was really nice through villages and orchards, after crossing the Mosel river it got a bit boring though)
Hotel: 🛌🛌🛌🛌🛌 ( 5 out of 5, great spacious appartment with all amenities we could wish for!)
Name of followed trail: Jakobs weg

We woke up with the sound of rain on the tent. It was still dripping from the trees, though the rain itself had just stopped. We had breakfast in the tent, Mark porridge and I had our last chocolate mousse dessert, since we ran out of breakfast 😅. Poor me 😋.

We put the last snacks in the fanny pack, since we are out of those too. The stretch between Aachen and Koblenz went a bit different than we expected and now we will walk into Koblenz with our food bags empty. Good planning you could call it I guess. And eventhough it’s Monday (so restday for many cafe’s and restaurants) we don’t think we’ll starve yet 😁.

We leave Gut Nettehammer behind and get back on trail, onwards to Kettig, through the fields and orchards full of cherry trees.

Surprisingly it’s still dry-ish. We’re quite happy that we packed in dry weather, for packing everything in the rain is a quite depressing activity. So far we’ve been in luck!

We walk through Kettig and play a little with the speed cam that actually registers our speed! We also see a lot of signs that belong to the Jakobsweg, showing how people here make an effort to put a smile on the faces of pilgrims. After Kettig we get back into the orchards, where it does start to rain, quite heavily too! When we walk into another village we see a gas station. In Germany this means a dry place with possibly fresh bread and some coffee. So we had to the gas station and have lunch inside🎉🎉!

From there we walk into the vineyards around the Mosel side of Koblenz. We have great views over the city and the vineyards here.

We cross the Mosel into Koblenz. From there we follow the river into town. This trail takes a lot longer than we’d like. When we get to the city centre, we’re both done with it, and walk from here to our hotel. We do make a small detour so we can buy our gas canisters for the next stretch, detergent to wash our clothes and food for tonight. This way we can stay home when we get there.

Our appartment is great! It’s spacious (so we can have a proper gear explosion without it being in the way) and it has cooking and washing facilities. And the beds are good, as is the shower. What a difference to our iffy appartement in Aachen!♥️♥️♥️

We first collapse on the couch before we do anything else. We made it to Koblenz! More than a 1000 miles on our way. Time for a zeroday!

  1. Heerlijk om de verslagen weer te lezen, en met 1000 mijl op de teller begint het op een serieuze wandeling te lijken!
