We leave Oberwesel with a steep climb towards the castle on the hill. A beautiful yet sweaty climb, because it’s already quite warm 🥵!
we enjoy the views, and ofcourse our new company! It’s really good to have Marleen with us for a couple of days!
Hiking with a backpack and some elevation can be quite the challenge when you’re not used to it, and Marleen is s newbie to tramping, so we take nice long breaks along the way. We’re lucky to find a café open, so we order a cold apfelschorle (soda) here!
After this refreshment we continue through villages and fields with great views until lunchtime when we find a spot in the shade to eat our wraps with some extras. The leftover cheese and banana we’re an added bonus to the otherwise basic wraps with Nutella And peanutbutter!
After lunch we have a piece of roadwalk, before we enter the forest again. At this point we come to the crossing point of our EI trail with the E3. We kind of hoped that there would be a signpost le something, but instead there were just 2 faded stickers on a pole.
After some forest tracks we get back into the fields where we at some point have to do some bush whacking because the trail ceases to exist at some point. We find our way back to the trail and continue. It’s warm in the afternoon sun and the trail goes up again. It’s still pretty, but especially Marleen is quite tired. We slow down a bit for the last few kilometers and make it to the hut, just in time to order food before the kitchen closes!
We have a very friendly waitress and a very good meal!
After that, we pitch tent in the field next to the hut. What a great day!
