Weather:🌤️🌤️🌤️🌤️🌤️
Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, basic lunch in the shade with lavas bread 😁)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5, nice trail through fields and forest)
Campsite: ⛺⛺ (2 out of 5, flat, grassy spot on a (camper) parkinglot next to the Main and a busy road)
Name of followed trail: 4 länden weg and Western Limesway by the Odenwaldklub.
We first so our resupply this morning, since the shops were closed yesterday.
After that we repack and leave Michelstadt around 10.30. We really enjoyed our relaxing stay here!
We start with quite the climb up the hill into the forest. It’s warm, but a lot more hikable than the week before. We’re still happy that the trail is mostly in the forest though 😅.
The first kilometers we walk on the 4 länden weg, and after 8 km we continue our way on the western limesway. Limes is the Roman word for border. In the 1st and 2nd century AD, the Roman empire spread all the way to this region. Today’s trail shows us what is still left of this time. Looking at all the sites along our trail, it’s been quite a busy area here! Strange to think that the road were walking on has been there for almost two thousand years (at least).
We walk mostly through the forest to Obernburg am Main. A new river today! Slowly we see the landscape change the last 2 weeks. The countryside becomes less flat and outstretched, churches look different, the people speak different, … We’re slowly moving out of the Germany we know into the part of the country that is not so familiar to us. It’s great that we’re experiencing all these charges while we got there on foot.
We run out of water before we reach Obernburg. Luckily a friendly man at the Schütz Verein gives us water.
We continue our way down to the Main and find our campsite. We need water for the night though, and in our search for water in the town, we find a good restaurant too. Poor us 😁. We have a great meal here, so guess who’s carrying the couscous for another night…? 😂
We pitch our tent on a parking where campers are also allowed. Nice spot, though a bit close to the road.
