Weather:🌤️🌤️🌤️🌤️🌤️
Lunch: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, at a bakery in Klingenberg)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5, nice trail through the forest and vineyards)
Campsite: ⛺⛺⛺ (3 out of 5, flat-ish, in the forest, just above a vineyard)
Name of followed trail: 3 different tracks, but mostly Main wanderweg
After a slightly restless night on our noisy campsite, we leave Obernburg and go across the Main into Elsenfeld. There, we smell a bakery, so we make a short stop there 😅
We continue on a flat trail through the forest, before it goes up the hills, towards de vineyards of the Churfranken region. Mark knows quite a few things about wine, yet this hike proofs to be very educational for the both of us on wines and wine regions. It’s great to learn about something while you are there to experience it for yourself, and much easier to remember too! So much to learn about all these regions, grape varieties, types of wine etc. For now, we enjoy the stunning views over the Main valley.
When we get to Klingenberg we make a little detour for lunch (and find a statue of a red wine roemer (glass)).
More beautiful forest trail follows, and we find our first cherries, ready for picking! After some cherry picking (and eating) we continue to Großheubach, where we get our water from a friendly man.
We go up the hill and follow a way of the cross, this time going up the hill. somehow we mostly find these going down, this seeing the bible story backwards. Now we went up the steep steps, that end at a monastery, with a Biergarten. We have a drink there before we walk the last 2 kilometers to our planned campspot. As we leave the monastery, we also find the first sign of the E8 mentioning our end goal of Istanbul! Indeed a little over 5000km to go!
When we get to the area we’d like to pitch, we look for something flat, which sort of works. We quickly pitch tent, because we expect rain pretty soon. When the tent is set and we’re both almost settled, the rain indeed comes. Quite a lot too! Yet we pitched well, because everything stays dry.
After the rain, it’s time for a meal. The couscous we bought in Oberwesel is going to be eaten!
After our couscous meal, I have a nice cup of tea. Made with the new tea egg, that even got its own blog on the site of Nibelungentee! https://www.nibelungentee.de/blogs/news/besuch-aus-den-niederlanden-wegen-einem-tee-ei
After that, we rest and listen to the raindrops on the tent (and blog or read about wine and vineyards).

Yeah, beautiful the Main. And then comes the cosy valley of the Tauber. It’s so nice to see you guys walking this trail! Brings back fond memories ❤️ As always: enjoy!
