Weather:🌧️🌧️☁️🌧️🌧️ (drizzle all day, combined with a few moments of Irish dry)
Picnic: 🥪🥪🥪 (3 out 5, nice bread from the bakery in Dinkelsbühl, with ham from the butcher we found along the trail. Picnic spot was less impressive, at a covered busstop)
Track: 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪 (3 out of 5, straight forward trail for the first 18 km, really nice trail over the Hesselberg)
Traction on track: 🍌 (1 out of 5 bananas because of the mud, especially in the Hesselberg)
Hotel: 🛌🛌🛌 (3 out of 5, nice room with good bed and shower)
Name of followed trail: Fritz Linnert steig.
After a good breakfast we leave Dinkelsbühl. We get lunch at the Brighouse, when the croissants just come out of the oven. Croissants are immediately at the top of our wishlist!
With lunch packed, we leave Dinkelsbühl the way we came; in the rain.
Today’s walk is quite uneventful and straight forward, mostly through fields and a few villages.
We walk past a butcher shop, and it’s open. Where we expect a small vending machine, there is a shop with three friendly and helpful ladies. We now have ham to put in the bread. 😁
After 14 km we have lunch at a covered bus stop. We enjoy the lunch a lot, yet the place we have it is underwhelming. Dry was our main criterium today, so we won’t complain.
All day we’ve been walking towards a hill, the Hesselberg. The trail takes us across the hill. It’s strenuous, but we both really enjoy the pretty and winding trail yo8the hill.
At the top we find a restaurant (closed when the weather is bad) and a vending machine. Here we meet 2 locals who ask if we’re walking far… That’s the start of a nice conversation with a drink from the vending machine.
After a drink we start the somewhat slippery descent. We’re both very traction awRe, eventhough the grip on our soles is still fine.
From the Hesselberg we walk dowbln towards Wassertrüdingen, where we’ve booked a hotel. On our way there we go for a resupply at the REWE supermarket.
At our hotel we are welcomed by our friendly hostess and get to our room. Time for a shower and some dry socks!
We get a good plate of food here and a nice cup of tea. After that it’s time to repack our groceries and have a little rest before we go to sleep 💤
