We leave the camping and go for lunch at the supermarket. No need for dinner, because I still have the noodles with me. And I’m showing my spring unions and capsicum around Germany. They are almost becoming the new magical couscous…
With our resupply done, we go steep up the hill to the castle (why are these always on a hill?) and walk into the fields.
The Limesweg is less easy to follow than the Altmühltal panorama weg, so we sometimes mis a marker. Luckily my watch saves us most of the times. The walk through the fields gets us to Denkendorf, where we get lunch at the supermarket + some plastic ziplock bags. We use these for repacking food and other small items that belong together. Since we visit different supermarkets every time, we found out that the quality of ziplock bags varies… Pleased as punch that we found the good ones now! Hiker happiness …😁
We have a break in the shade outside the supermarket. We enjoy the silly writings on the fruit juice bottles and continue our way. We walk past a carpool bench. Here you can turn a sign to your wished destination and wait for someone to take you along. Semi-arranged hitch hiking. We’ve seen a few of these in this region, but this one has a lot of destination options.
From Denkendorf we walk into the forest and walk along a grassy valley. The trail is quite long here and we both agree that this bit would be nicer by bicycle..
We have a break under a big conjoined Beech tree and have a 2nd lunch with the bread from Kipfenberg.
From there we continue into Sandersdorf , where we find a café. We’re both thirsty after a hot day of hiking, so it’s time for Apple schorles! From the café we have a good view over Sloß Sandersdorf, a complex set of buildings forming a castle.
From Sandersdorf the trail changes into a narrow trail through meadows, hop fields and woodlands that gives beautiful panorama views over the valley and it’s villages. We really enjoy this change!
In Altmannstein we do a short resupply and have a drink in the supermarket cafe. We fill our water there and walk through the town up the steep hill. As soon as we find a flat spot, we decide to pitch here. It’s a nice and quiet spot, and it’s time for dinner! Noodles tonight 😁.
