We had a great hiking day today. Tough but beautiful. We hiked 29 kilometers with quite some elevation in the summer heat and enjoyed it. I’m really pleased with how we did today!
After a great Bavarian breakfast (thanks Walter), we said our goodbyes to Gilbert and Walter and hiked to the Wald Wimpfel weg. This is an elevated path up between the crowns of the trees. We walked the trail and climbed the circular viewpoint, that is really cool build with climbing ways for children all the way and a long slide down. After our tour on the elevated trail, we get ourselves something to drink at the restaurant.
We walk through the forest and have our fruit snacks in the next village, where we refill our water too.
Refreshed, we continue up the hills untill we get to a house where we’re greeted by a curious dog. His owner spotted us and invited us to drink some cold water. She even brought cherries to go with it! We have a good short break before we continue after this kind offer.
Across the hill in Kalteck we get water at a house from a friendly lady.
After that we climb up to the Krakelbrunnen. There’s indeed water (yes, bathing opportunity!) but no flat spot. So we camp on the trail a bit further back.
A few weeks ago I didn’t want to camp close to the trail, now we’re pitched on the trail… I guess I changed my perspective on free camping a bit 😅
We have a good couscous meal and I go bathing at the spring (where I scare a cyclist when he sees a half naked women at the spring 😅)
Because of all the insects we go into the tent soon after eating. It’s getting dark and we don’t expect anyone anymore, after the runner that passed us. Yet there is a evening hiker that passes by and is quite surprised by our tent. We have a fun conversation with Elke before she continues on her way. Camping on trail apparently is also fine…
