We woke up in time and went for a very good breakfast. After that we took our bicycles to the Hofburg, to see some royal treasures from the time of the Austria-Hungarian empire. This was a vast empire. We’ll be walking through it until we reach Serbia!
A lot of very important treasures, none of which we’d like to have at home, we’re on display. Some motifs on the jewels seemed to have been a source of inspiration for Gustav Klimts paintings…
We also saw the holy lance, a lance believed to possess special powers, and whoever owns it can rule the world.
And, we saw the original Christmas stockings 😉.
From the Hofburg we went to Dremel café, for a hot chocolate (completely inappropriate in summer, but still delicious) and apfelstrudel. After that it was time to go home and do some practical stuff like laundry and booking our accommodation for the next leg.
Afterwards it was time for wine. First we went to a small wine bar and then to restaurant Glacis Beisl, recommended to us by Franz and Martina. We enjoyed our meal and wine here! Thanks for the suggestion, Franz and Martina!
After a good meal, we went home to pack our bags and prepare for tomorrow. We’ll become hikers again, after a few nice days of rest and non-hiking.
Strange to be on our way again. In a few days we’ll enter a new country again, Slovakia. With a new country comes a new world this time. The world of mountains, a more remote hiking trail and a language we don’t understand. This world will stay with us after Slovakia until we reach Istanbul. Exiting and a bit scary. Curious to what Slovakia will be like, I go to sleep. First 2 more days along the Donau river.
